Gasser TIme!

Okay, not quite – gasser wheel time. I make no excuses, I am a sucker for a gasser. This one was at Wheels Day 2013 a few weeks ago.

Porsche 912 Road Test (1965)

Occasionally we stumble across old car magazines at boot sales or antique shops. It's quite good fun to buy a stack of them (they normally come pretty cheap compared to those at car shows and swap meets) and then sit at home with a coffee or two, flick through them and look for anything that catches the eye. So it was a great moment (nearly spilled the said coffee) when I stumbled across this September 24 1965 edition of Autocar, and realised that it had a six page road test of the Porsche 912 in it. Having read it, it seems pretty true to our experience of owning one today (albeit our performance is better with the warmed-up motor). Anyway, for those who are interested in such things – especially the 912 boys – here it is... (click on the images to enlarge for reading)

Best of Show. The Ruby.

There are cars, and there are show cars. And then there are those few that take it to the next level. This is one of the latter, Wayne McCarthy's Ruby Red 1963 beetle, built by Ben Lewis of Evil Ben's and painted by Gavin Jones of Trailer Queen Restos.

Now, we consider all three to be friends of SuperNinety, so you might think we're being biased when we say that this is probably the best, most perfectly detailed show car we've ever seen. But then again, this car has just been awarded Best of Show at the Volksworld Show, probably the most prestigious award a VW can get in Europe. And prior to that, it took the Meguiars best of show award at the NEC Classic Car Show last November, where it beat the highest level of competition from all marques, including six and seven-figure cars.

Our photos here don't really do it justice, it has to be seen in the flesh to be believed, but if you can get hold of copy, have a look at the feature in Volksworld magazine for some of the insane detail. Congratulations to Wayne, Ben and Gav – well done gents.
